Being told when we can or cannot leave our homes doesn’t sit well with any of us.
I’m sure our Prime Minister, too, was unhappy about having to issue the instructions, but it is the responsibility of all Christians to comply with them for in Romans 13:1-2 we are told :- “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgement on themselves.”
Our compliance is to be a reflection of the believers’ submission to the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ, to whom “All authority has been given .. in heaven and on earth.” (Matt 28:18).
Others will be looking at us, and our compliance will be a testimony to them of the virtue and worth of our faith. They will think very little of us, and of what it means to be a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, if our testimony in our nation’s time of difficulty is a poor one.
Let us be those that show we are willing and content to be subject to the governing authorities, and let us too, be those that pray for them.
Paul wrote in 1 Timothy 2:1-2 “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.”
Our leaders need praying for, as of course do all our medical and other key-workers who are risking their health for the sake of others at this time. We thank God for them.
